The C-2 Convenience Store located at the junction of Hwys B and K, just across from the Sevenwinds Casino and C-1 Convenience Store, was approved last week to be held in federal trust. The land that C2 is located becomes an extension of the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation and is not subject to local or state taxes.
Lac Courte Oreilles Chairman Louis Taylor said the gas station can now sell cigarettes and gasoline tax free.
“C-2 gas prices will be the same price as our other gas stations and our members will be able to use their tribal discounts there,” Taylor said.
The chairman stated one of the ideas the tribal governing board is considering for C2 is to relocate the LCO Fireworks retail outlet into the convenience area of the store. The tribe is also looking into a small pizza or other type of food operation to be located at the station.
LCO Vice Chairman Jason Schlender said the C-2 Convenience Store going into trust is a long time coming.
“Now the tribe can get all the benefits of having that land into trust...no state taxes and not being able to sell it,” Schlender said.
