Boozhoo! I very much appreciate you taking the time to read some important updates regarding the services and updates for our Elderly and Disabled community members, as we head into the fall and eventual winter months it is my hope to continue provide prompt and sufficient services as the weather changes.

Lawn Care chore services will continue up to Labor Day weekend which is coming up next week, we currently provide Lawn Care for up to 53 lawns within the LCO Community, the list has extensively grown and continues, the current time period runs from Memorial Day weekend up until Labor Day weekend, the weather is finally cooling off and leaves will begin to fall, Miigwech to Ed Martin and his crew for handling the lawns for the summer.

GLNAEA – Great lakes Native American Elders Association will be hosted by the Red Cliff tribe at the Legendary Waters September 4th & 5th, this group typically meets quarterly throughout the year and does provide information relating to Caregiver support and resources, so far we have a total of 10-12 community elders that participate and attend these events, Clara Jalowitz coordinates the group when travel and reservations are involved, we ask that you please inform us ahead of time to coordinate travel arrangements. The next GLNAEA meeting is scheduled sometime during the 1st week to be in Bad River in December 2019. I have included the GLNAEA Agenda as well for those wanting more information on the event.

9th Annual Community Wellness & Resource Fair – scheduled for Monday, September 9th, 2019 at 10am at the Seven Winds Casino & Convention Center, this is a community event open to the public, we encourage you to attend and meet vendors that offer various resources relating to Healthcare, MCO’s (Managed Care Organization), Veterans Services, just to name a few, we have plenty of information, raffle prizes, as well as food, the flyer is attached below.

We have been diligently working with the LCO Elders Advisory Council with policy revisions, drafts, and suggestions to better serve the LCO Community, I know that during the snowy, winter seasons, those seem to be our most pressing time of need for services relating to furnaces, water heaters, shoveling and snowplowing, we hope to better address that this coming season. Although as I have reiterated that our program is only allowed to plow within our own driveways, Counties, Townships, and Tribal Roads all have their own policies and standards and there are times where we are limited in that regard.

As always I look forward to your suggestions, comments, opinions, I don’t have all the answers and encourage people within the community to advocate and encourage helping those in need, Miigwech for taking the time to read and will see you soon.

Respectfully,

Terrance Manuelito
