Empowering Change: Five Skies Training and Consulting LLC Transforms Opportunities in Indian Country

Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin, Five Skies Training and Consulting, LLC is a Native-owned business on a mission to break barriers and build opportunities for communities in Indian Country. Founded and operated by Nicholas "Nick" Kedrowski and Nyree Kedrowski, with support from their son Jon, the family-run business provides tailored training programs to help individuals and tribes unlock their potential.

A Vision Rooted in Heritage and Understanding

Nick Kedrowski, a member of the Oneida Nation’s Turtle Clan, and Nyree Kedrowski, of the Ho-Chunk Nation’s Thunder Clan, bring decades of combined experience and cultural sensitivity to their work. Their insight into the systemic challenges faced by Native communities—ranging from employment barriers to generational trauma—has become the foundation for their transformative training programs.

“We’re not a ‘one-and-done’ organization,” Nick explained. “We follow our graduates throughout their lives, maintaining contact to ensure they continue to access the opportunities we help them uncover. Our work is about creating long-term impact.”

Nick and Nyree are bringing this program to Lac Courte Oreilles and it starts on January 27, and runs for four weeks. It will be held at the Sevenwinds Casino. More details on the program specifics can be found in the flyer below this article.

Tailored Training for Tribal and Individual Success

Five Skies offers a range of programs tailored to the specific needs of individuals and tribal agencies. Their services include workshops on PL 102-477 compliance, TERO (Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance) law, and financial literacy, alongside specialized consulting for tribal offices and contractors. They have worked with tribes across the Midwest, from Standing Rock in North Dakota to Ho-Chunk communities in Wisconsin, and even as far as Iowa.

One hallmark of their approach is introducing participants to a variety of career paths. “We expose them to real-life job scenarios,” Nick said. “If someone wants to be a laborer, we’ll bring in a laborer to show them the reality of the job. They might change their mind—and that’s okay. It’s about finding the right fit.”

The Kedrowskis’ programs focus on four core components designed to empower individuals and build resilience:

1. Self-Image and Healing from Trauma:“Many of our students face barriers stemming from generational trauma,” Nyree shared. “The first step is helping them unpack that baggage and reshape their decisions. It’s uncomfortable work, but necessary to build confidence and clarity.”

2. Financial Literacy:The second component equips participants with tools for budgeting and economic stability. “Money is just a tool,” Nick emphasized. “Many of us weren’t taught how to use it wisely. We help our students break the cycle of financial mismanagement.”

3. Empowerment and Rebuilding:By the program’s second week, participants begin to rebuild their sense of self-worth. Nyree explained, “We hear graduates say they feel like better people because they’ve learned to think differently and take control of their lives.”

In addition to working with individuals, Five Skies plays a pivotal role in helping contractors navigate Tribal Employment Rights Ordinances and building partnerships with tribes. From ordinance development to compliance consulting, they provide the guidance necessary for mutually beneficial collaborations.
