Former NFL Player, Levi Horn, Runs Football Camp in Hayward

Levi Horn, former NFL player for the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, came to Hayward to host a football camp on May 18th for students in the Hayward Community School District, Winter School District, and the LCO Ojibwe School.

According to Amanda Scheel, organizer of the event, over 60 kids from 3rd-12th grade participated even though it happened on a rainy day. Hayward High School head football coach and physical education teacher, Noah LeBlanc, and Hayward Middle School football coach and 8th grade science teacher, Mike Nechuta, were a huge help with the afternoon session for students in 7th-12th grade.

Scheel said students Beck Johnson, Jordan Raimer, Jayelon Olson, and Wesley Johnson were all given gift cards for their good sportsmanship. Jordan also stayed the whole day and was a great assistant to Levi helping to coach the younger students.

Scheel gave a big thank you to Hayward Schools for allowing them the use of their practice field for the camp.

Funding to make this possible was provided by the Johnson-O’Malley program and the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Governing Board.
