LCO Police Chief Tim DeBrot
On Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at approximately 9:34 P.M., Officers from the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department responded to the call of a one-vehicle crash on Gumo Lake Road approximately half mile west of County Hwy NN.
Initial indications was that a white 2012 Chevrolet Silverado truck was traveling westbound on Gurno Lake Road when the vehicle lost control crossing the roadway and striking trees and rolling. As a result of the crash the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, a deceased unidentified male was located within the vehicle.
The driver was David Van Lyssel, 36, of Hayward.
The Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department was assisted by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Hayward Police Department, Lac Courte Oreilles Fire Department, Town of Hayward Fire Department, City of Hayward Fire Department, Bass Lake Fire Department, and the Sawyer County Ambulance.
This crash remains under investigation by the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department and the Sawyer County Coroner's Office.
