New Fire Hall Will be Located Near Four Corners Area

By Joe Morey News Editor

The new LCO Fire Hall will be located at the site of the former Tru-Gas satellite gas tanks near the Four Corners area of Trepania Road, Froemel Road, Round Lake School Road and Indian Trail. After considering all the details between that location and the old fire hall location in Reserve, the LCO Tribal Governing Board (TGB) unanimously chose the Four Corners area because of its proximity to the most populated areas of the LCO Reservation.

The $1.2 million project was initially part of the CARES Act, but following the TGB decision to make a payment to the Tribal Membership, the funding will come from Enbridge Funds and move forward as if it were still part of the project. The construction schedule is set to begin July 15, two weeks after the Day Care project begins.

Project Planner, Brian Bisonette, reported to the TGB that most 9-1-1 calls to Sawyer County come from the area of the north part of the Reservation, which includes Dry Town, Schoolhouse, and K-Town areas. The fire hall located at the Tru-Gas site will be centrally located to those communities.

The LCO Fire Hall is being located so that the current fire hall on Trepania Road, within the footprint of the LCO Ojibwe School, can be renovated to four classrooms and expand the school.
