Public Health Officer Concerned as Covid Cases Slightly Rising

Submitted by Gary Girard

LCO Health Center Director/ Public Health Officer

Covid-19 cases are rising in Wisconsin. LCO currently has 17 positive cases, mostly in younger patients. All quarantines and contact tracing is being done by our Covid-19 response team.

We believe too many community members have once again stopped following the CDC guidelines of social distancing, disinfecting, hand sanitizing, and wearing masks. We are also concerned about the number of community members not getting vaccinated. We currently have over 4,000 Covid-19 vaccines on hand including Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. In an effort to slow the spread of the disease, anyone, Native or non-Native can call the LCO Health Center to schedule an appointment for Covid-19 vaccination. Of course Native preference will apply.

The only way to reach herd immunity is to get at least 70% of the community vaccinated. Another concern is the number of patients whom have had Covid-19 and are not vaccinated. Their immunity may not cover new variant strains which are more transmissible. To date, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are believed to be effective against these variants. Call 715-638-5100 to schedule your appointment.
