Submitted by Curtis DeCora

Rising Stars Basketball announces today five (5) new opportunities available to area youth.

  1. Skills Camps

  2. Group Skills Training

  3. State-Wide Shooting Competitions

  4. Basketball Showcases

  5. Competitive Tournament Games

In the months of April and May, Rising Stars Basketball will be holding 4 skills camps. April 16 is the “3-Level Scorer” Camp, April 24 is the “Attack the Rack” Scoring Camp, May 8 is the “MVP Shooting” Camp, and May 15 is the “Advanced Perimeter” Camp. Each skills camp is four hours in length and is designed to leave the athletes with full workouts they can do at home to improve their game.

Year-round group skills training is available to anyone that wants to attend. These group training opportunities are available every Saturday from 5PM to 7PM at the Boys & Girls Club of Lac Courte Oreilles.

Rising Stars Basketball has partnered with former NBA Player, Steve Novak, and Kwik Trip to bring the “2s Frees & 3s” event to Hayward. The goal is to find the best shooter in the state of Wisconsin. The event, traditionally held in southern Wisconsin, puts athletes through a series of spots to shoot from, accumulating a score based on a 75 point scale. The highest scores advance to the Sectionals. Winners in the Sectionals compete for the State title in Milwaukee Wisconsin in August of 2022. There are eight age divisions ranging from 9 years to 61. Each division is awarded a winner. The event will be held on May 22nd at the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School from 12PM to 4PM.

On April 10, 2022, Rising Stars Basketball sent two athletes to the Wisconsin Sports Network Spring Showcase to play in front of college scouts, college coaches, and sports writers from around the state of Wisconsin. Another batch of athletes will be sent to the Fall Showcase on September 11, 2022. One athlete was invited to a national showcase and exposure camp in the Twin Cities on June 20, 2022.

Additionally, Rising Stars will be taking 5 teams (12U Boys Black, 12U Boys Gold, 14U Girls, 15U Boys and 17U Boys) to 4 different highly competitive tournaments around the Midwest between the dates of June 18 and July 23. The 14 games are played in the AAU circuit, and part of the PrepHoops Grassroots Circuit. The athletes will practice twice weekly in preparation of the tournaments.

Lastly, we want to highlight our 2022 sponsors for allowing us to make this an affordable option for families with fees 72% lower than that of other clubs around the state. We want to thank Main Street Tacos, Devil’s Lake Tree Service, Sevenwinds Casino, Tamarack Farms, Gitchi Movin, Joe Gotmer, Fuller Garage Door, Treeland Resorts, and Coops Pizza. We’re in the middle of our annual sponsorship drive at the moment, so we may have additional sponsors helping support our initiatives.

Rising Stars Basketball Club is a not-for-profit sports club located in Hayward Wisconsin serving as a Player-Centered Development Program for anyone that wishes to join. We do not hold any try-outs, everyone is welcome to join. In our third year of operation, we have produced two athletes going on to play Division I NAIA collegiate basketball, hold three all-conference performers, and have received 13 invitations for our athletes to participate in regional and national showcase exposure camps. Rising Stars Basketball has introductory programs for ages 6-8, a 3-on-3 league for ages 9-11, and then competitive tournament play for ages 12-17.
