Submitted Press Release

Meals on Wheels and other non-profit food programs in Sawyer County recently received a boost thanks to the Democratic Party of Sawyer County and LCO Reservation. The party presented $500 to five area sites offering food-related services to seniors and others in need—$100 each.

Donations went to home-delivered meal and congregate dining services provided by the Hayward, Stone Lake, and Exeland Senior Centers to those communities. Services also include Meals on Wheels delivered from the Exeland site to the Winter community.

What’s more, donations went to home-delivered meal and congregate dining services provided by the LCO Nutrition Center to the Reserve community, and to the WALDO Community Center, which houses a food pantry for Winter-area residents. While payments for these food-related services are requested from recipients, the services are free to those who cannot afford to pay.

“We believe it’s important to give back to our communities, and donating to these vital services demonstrates our commitment to that goal,” said Gayle Johnson, co-chair of the Sawyer County LCO Democratic Party. “We’re especially pleased to make these donations during the holiday season, which is all about giving.”

Donations were presented to:

·       Joey Johnson, Executive Director, Hayward Senior Resource Center

·       Rose Gokee, Director of Aging and Disability Services, LCO Nutrition Center, Reserve

·       Heather Evans, Site Manager, Exeland Senior Center

·       Barb Applebee, Site Manager, Stone Lake Senior Center

·       Laurie Martin, Site Manager, WALDO Community Center, Winter
