A special ceremony was held at the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Office to recognize outgoing Tribal Governing Board members Lorraine Gouge and Glenda Barber. Both served on the board from 2019 to 2013, with Gouge serving as Vice Chairwoman.

Current council members said a few words of recognition and a feast followed.

“We’ve appreciated everything they’ve done over the last four years. They’ve worked hard and long representing us here and on the national level,” stated Michelle Beaudin. “We want to show them how much we appreciate them.”

Gary “Little Guy” Clause told them they’ve given four years to their people. “You’ve done a lot, but the creator has something else for you to do now.”

Don Carley thanked them for working through the pandemic. “We’ve done a lot in the last four years. A lot of work went into our housing projects and you’ve been a part of that.”

Glenda thanked everyone. “I did my best and I wasn’t able to please everyone. I am proud of what I’ve done with the housing situation and I hope the new council will continue with that.”

Lorraine said the whole council brought something to the table. “We didn’t expect to see a pandemic and during this time, we put together a great team. We also didn’t expect to lose all the people we did.”

Lorraine also said to the new council members that they’re on call 24 hours a day.

“Thanks to all those who believed in me. I took this position seriously. I was honored to be your vice chairwoman for four years.”

Lorraine and Glenda received gifts from Michelle Beaudin and Little Guy on behalf of the Tribe.
